Tokoname Pots | |||||||||||||||||||||||||
Most high quality bonsai pots come from Japan and in particular from Tokoname, an area which was already famous in ancient times because of pottery manufacturing. Japanese pots are still hand-manufactured. The method is of the whole die, so that the clay is pressed on both sides, inner and outer. Metals and wood ash are used to give clay colour: cobalt for blue shades, copper for green and red shades (according to oven atmosphere, oxidizing or reducing), iron for the wide range of shades from the very light brown to the black. Iron allows obtaining also the precious green-blue shade, if the oven atmosphere is reducing. The wide range of Tokoname pots offered by Crespi Bonsai includes various shapes, size and colours.
